Recycling Plastic
Certain recyclable material requires a bit more attention for it to be properly recycled. Plastic is such a material. Theoretically, almost any item can be broken down into a recyclable form, but products made of plastic must be sorted by composition to be effectively recycled into the mix.
The most common uses for recyclable plastic are water and soft-drink bottles, peanut butter and jam containers and salad dressing bottles; shopping and garbage bags; juice bottles and cling film; squeezable bottles; microwaveable containers; plates, cups and utensils.
All recyclable plastic packaging includes a Plastic Identification Code (PIC) usually on the bottom of the bottle or jar. You will see the codes PET, PE-HD, PVC, PE-LD, PP, PS and O located somewhere on a plastic product. These codes signify the particular composition of each product.
